What are the conditions?

  • You are a student.
  • You are at least 15 years old and have followed the first two years of secondary education.
  • You are currently in secondary, higher or university education.
  • Studying is your main activity, any work is secondary to it.

How many days can you work?

You work a maximum of 475 hours per calendar year, and 240 hours per quarter – with the exception of the summer period. Do you stick to those conditions? Then you enjoy reduced social contributions on your student job. You work more than 475 hours? Then you owe the ordinary social contributions from the 476th hour. Remember: even then you still have to have a student agreement.

How much can you earn?

Basically as much as you want ... but if your student job yields more than the maximum amount, you do pay taxes. That maximum amount changes annually. For 2018 it amounts to 11,042.86 euros (gross, after deduction of social contributions).
